If you are living in a condominium or a bachelor’s pad with a floor area similar to Mima’s Homey, you have to be a minimalist.  You need to set aside a practical storage area/room for your housemates or roomie.  Movable or built-in bookshelves for you or your children, closet or storage box for dolls, stuffed toys, musical instruments, and even a shoe cabinet should be in a strategic place.  Built-in hanging cabinets can be considered as a good storage. They can be in the attic, or under your bed, or garage, for stuff or equipment that you do not frequently use but needs to be kept for future necessities.  You have to find ways to make your limited floor area spacious and comfortable for everyone while stuff to be kept seems to keep on coming each day.

My husband’s favorite hobby is fishing. He goes on a trip during summer and/or in the last quarter of the year.  His fishing equipment and accessories (rods, reels, lines and leaders, lures or baits, wader, life vest, rod holders, belts and harness, hooks, sinkers, floaters, etc.) alone needs a quite deal of accommodation at Mima’s Homey.  He needs space while preparing and cleaning his fishing gears and a place that he can safely keep them.   The good thing is he is organized!  He has a bag for fishing rods, boxes with compartments for accessories, and storage box for reels and lines.  However, one bag and few boxes are not enough because with his collections, he needs a warehouse.

Fishing as a hobby is no joke, equipment and accessories are expensive, as well as the actual fishing itself.  Not to mention the risks especially during deep sea fishing, staying offshore before sunrise until beyond sunset.  There was a time when the boat’s engine malfunctioned. My husband and his companion were two hours or more away from the shore, nowhere in the darkest hour of the night, and his mobile phone’s battery is running low.  We had to ask help from another boatman to find and fetch them even though we have no idea from which direction or part of the sea to search for them.

That nightmare did not stopped my husband’s love for fishing.  He also joins fishing tournaments. He brings a set or two of his gears if some his travel destinations have a window for fishing.  The joy, triumphant catch, and fulfillment that he enjoys while fishing is immeasurable and priceless.  It also provides opportunities for family getaway and bonding. Whenever there’s a chance that we can join him to have fun outdoors, swim, and wallow in the beach.

No matter how roomy your place is, you should give importance for your storage of home and personal stuff either for day-to-day or occasional usage and hobbies.  You have to practice minimalism, prevent eyesore, and give your family a space for belongings that they love and treasure.

In that way po kasi, mas luluwag yung place, naka-organized kaya maganda siyang tignan and mas tatagal pa yung mga bagay na kino collect mo or iniingat ingatan mo.
