Lakwatserong Technician: Dwight Bunao on Travel, Content Creation, and Staying Authentic

For Dwight Bunao, better known online as Lakwatserong Technician, becoming a content creator was never really part of the plan.

I first met Dwight through 2GOKADA, where I got to know not just the creator behind the travel videos, but also the person behind Lakwatserong Technician. Our paths crossed again when I invited him to CAVCON, giving me another opportunity to see his enthusiasm for travel, content creation, and connecting with fellow creators.

What makes Dwight’s story interesting is that content creation wasn’t something he initially set out to pursue. Long before views, followers, and viral videos entered the picture, traveling was simply his way of taking a break from repair work. Whenever he went somewhere new, he would pull out his phone and record videos, not necessarily for an audience, but to preserve the memories.

“I didn’t really start out as a content creator,” Dwight shares. “I simply enjoyed taking videos whenever I traveled because I wanted to preserve those moments as memories.”

He eventually created a Facebook page and began sharing his travels. There were no grand expectations. But something unexpected happened: people started watching. His videos reached increasingly larger audiences, his following grew, and some of his posts went viral. That was when Dwight realized that people genuinely enjoyed experiencing the Philippines through his perspective.

From Technician to Travel Content Creator

The name Lakwatserong Technician reflects the two sides of Dwight’s journey.

Repair work was once a major part of his everyday life, while traveling became his escape whenever he wanted to rest and temporarily forget about repairs. As his online presence grew, however, his priorities gradually changed.

Today, content creation takes up more of his attention. He still does repair work, but mostly for regular clients and friends. That doesn’t mean he has abandoned his original craft.

Dwight continues practicing whenever possible to keep his technical skills sharp. Instead of completely leaving one identity behind for another, his journey shows how interests and careers can evolve as new opportunities emerge.

How 2GOKADA Changed His Approach to Content

Since I first connected with Dwight through 2GOKADA, it was particularly interesting to hear how the 2GOKADA Creators Cruise influenced the way he now approaches content creation.

Before the experience, his idea of successful content was relatively straightforward: if a video went viral, it was already a win. The cruise changed that perspective.

“Before, I thought kapag ang video mo went viral, that was already enough,” he recalls. “But the experience opened my eyes to the importance of creating content that has value and tells a story. Hindi lang yung pagkakaroon ng maraming views.”

For Dwight, it was an important realization: virality may bring attention, but meaningful content gives audiences a reason to stay.

The experience encouraged him to become more intentional with his storytelling, improve his skills, and remain consistent. It also pushed him to think beyond a single social media platform.

Where he once primarily uploaded his videos to Facebook, Dwight now distributes his content across Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Threads, allowing his travel stories to reach different audiences.

More Than Just Beautiful Destinations

Travel has also transformed the way Dwight tells stories.

During his earlier trips, he would simply record whatever caught his attention. Beautiful scenery was enough, and he wasn’t particularly concerned about what clips ended up on his phone or memory card.

That approach has changed. “Now, I focus on sharing the complete experience. Mula pagpunta hanggang pag-uwi,” he says.

For Dwight, good travel content isn’t simply about showing viewers a beautiful beach, mountain, hotel, or tourist attraction. The journey itself matters.

Travelers want to know what it is actually like to visit a destination. They want useful information that can help them plan their own trips, along with an honest picture of what they might encounter once they get there. That is why Dwight aims to make his content informative, relatable, and authentic.

His approach reflects a broader lesson about travel storytelling: sometimes the most memorable part of a trip isn’t the picture-perfect destination. It’s what happens along the way.

When Three Days in Boracay Became Six

One of Dwight’s most memorable examples came during a trip to Boracay in 2025. The plan was simple: spend three days on the island.

Then a typhoon came. Transportation was disrupted, leaving Dwight and his companions stranded. Their three-day Boracay getaway unexpectedly stretched into six days. There were additional expenses to think about, plans had to change, and they had no choice but to wait until travel became possible again.

Dwight could have spent those extra days frustrated by the situation. Instead, he decided to enjoy them. “Instead na malungkot dahil sa gastos at dagdag na araw, mas pinili kong i-enjoy pa yung mga araw na stranded kami,” he shares.

For a travel creator, even an inconvenience can become part of the story. “Minsan kasi mas nagiging maganda ang kwento kapag may kakaibang nangyayari sa travel mo,” Dwight says. “Yan yung masarap ikwento kasi authentic experience talaga.”

The experience captures what authenticity means in travel content. Trips don’t always follow itineraries. Weather changes. Transportation gets canceled. Budgets get stretched. Plans fall apart. And sometimes, those unplanned moments become the stories worth remembering.

What Is the Best Place to Visit in the Philippines?

Ask Dwight to choose the most beautiful destination in the Philippines, and don’t expect him to name just one. His answer is simple: all of it.

“Lahat. Sobrang ganda ng Pilipinas,” he says.

For Dwight, every destination has something different to offer. Each place has its own character, beauty, people, and stories, making it difficult for him to declare one destination better than the rest. His suggestion to travelers is more meaningful than simply giving them another list of must-visit destinations.

Explore the Philippines and create your own story. Travel, after all, is personal. The destination someone else considers unforgettable might not be the one that leaves the biggest impression on you. Sometimes you simply have to go and find out for yourself.

You Don’t Need the Most Expensive Gear

For aspiring travel content creators, Dwight also challenges the idea that starting requires an expensive camera setup. His most important tool remains something most people already carry every day: a cellphone.

“You don’t really need the highest-end model,” he explains. “What matters is how you use what you already have.”

A reliable smartphone can already perform many of the essential tasks a traveler needs. It can capture photos and videos, provide navigation, help with research, and keep you connected throughout a trip.

For editing, Dwight recommends CapCut Pro, particularly for creators who want to turn travel clips into engaging videos while on the go without relying on a laptop.

He also offers an extremely practical piece of travel advice that creators can easily overlook while planning their shots and itineraries: Check the weather before you leave.

Knowing the forecast can help travelers prepare properly and better understand how weather conditions might affect the day’s plans, especially when traveling around an archipelago where storms can quickly disrupt sea and air transportation. Dwight’s own Boracay experience is proof of just how dramatically weather can change a trip.

Views Come and Go, So Keep Creating

Social media algorithms are unpredictable. A creator can spend hours working on a video only for it to receive modest engagement. Another post can unexpectedly take off. Dwight has learned not to let those fluctuations determine whether creating is worthwhile.

His advice? Stay relevant and be consistent.

“Paiba-iba ang algorithm kaya may views o wala, as long as masaya ka sa ginagawa mo. G lang,” he says.

It’s a simple philosophy, but an important one for anyone trying to build a presence online. Creators cannot completely control algorithms. They can, however, control whether they continue learning, experimenting, showing up, and creating something they genuinely enjoy.

Create Because You Love It

For Dwight, one lesson stands above the rest. “Do what you genuinely love.”

He advises aspiring creators not to begin solely because they want views, followers, or income. Those rewards may eventually come, but if they become the only motivation, it can be difficult to sustain the work when numbers aren’t growing. Instead, creators should find their purpose.

“Focus on what truly makes you happy,” Dwight says. “When you’re passionate about what you do, people can see it in your content, and that’s what helps you build a genuine connection with your audience.”

His advice comes down to three things: stay authentic, keep learning, and be consistent.

It’s a philosophy that mirrors Dwight’s own evolution. He started by recording trips simply because he enjoyed traveling. Those memories became videos. The videos found an audience. That audience encouraged him to continue. And along the way, he learned that successful content creation isn’t simply about reaching the largest number of people. It’s about having something worthwhile to share with them.

Where Will Lakwatserong Technician Go Next?

There are still plenty of destinations Dwight wants to explore, but his goals aren’t limited to collecting stamps, visiting tourist spots, or adding more places to his travel list. He wants to keep learning.

Lakwatserong Technician

“Madami akong gustong puntahan. Pero madami din akong gustong gawin dahil sa araw-araw mas gusto ko palaging mas matuto at madagdagan ang aking kaalaman,” he shares.

There is no rigid finish line in mind. For Dwight, the bigger goal is simply to be happy, continue discovering new things, and trust where life takes him.

“Wala akong ibang hangad kundi ang maging masaya,” he says, adding that he leaves it to the Lord to guide him wherever his journey leads next.

Perhaps that is what makes Lakwatserong Technician an appropriate name after all. The technician continues to learn and sharpen his craft. The lakwatsero keeps moving, discovering new destinations and collecting new experiences. And Dwight Bunao continues turning those experiences into stories, one trip at a time.
