Cavite has always been rich in stories. Beyond the destinations we usually see online, there are old churches, historical landmarks, traditions, local businesses, and communities with stories that deserve to be told. One content creator who has made it his mission to share these stories is Kristian Romanes, the man behind Lakwatsero Caviteño.
Today, Lakwatsero Caviteño covers almost everything happening around the province, from food and travel to culture, heritage, history, hotels, cafés, current events, and even pop culture. But before the page became what it is today, its original purpose was much simpler: to introduce people to the lesser-known history and heritage of Cavite.
Interestingly, my connection with Kuya Kristian started long before our paths crossed as content creators.
How I First Met Kristian Romanes
I first met Kuya Kristian in 2020, and it wasn’t through a blogging event, media launch, or collaboration. At the time, I was serving as an SK Secretary in our barangay. Following the Taal Volcano eruption, our SK organized a donation drive to help affected communities in Batangas. Kuya Kristian came to our barangay to donate clothes for the initiative. Our SK later brought the collected donations to Batangas as part of our relief efforts. That was our first meeting.
Looking back, there’s something meaningful about how our paths first crossed. We didn’t meet as content creators. We met as fellow Caviteños who had a heart to help people. Years later, we would find ourselves in the same content creation community, both sharing stories about the province we call home.
Knowing how we first met also gives me a different appreciation for the person behind Lakwatsero Caviteño. Before collaborations, followers, features, and recognition entered the picture, my first impression of Kuya Kristian came from a simple act of helping people during a difficult time.
The Story Behind Lakwatsero Caviteño
Kristian’s inspiration for creating Lakwatsero Caviteño came from realizing just how many historical sites in Cavite have fascinating stories that relatively few people know about. Cavite played an important role in Philippine history, but beyond its famous landmarks are places and stories that don’t always receive the same attention. This inspired him to create a page where he could showcase both the beauty and history of these places.
The original vision of Lakwatsero Caviteño was to feature unknown and underrated heritage sites while introducing more people to the traditions and culture of Cavite. It was less about simply telling people where to go and more about explaining why these places matter.
How He Chooses Stories Worth Sharing
Lakwatsero Caviteño has since grown beyond historical content. Today, Kristian talks about restaurants, travel destinations, culture, current events, and pop culture.

Maragondon Deserves More Attention
When asked about underrated destinations in Cavite, one municipality immediately came to Kristian’s mind: Maragondon. For him, Maragondon still has so much tourism potential.
The municipality offers mountains for outdoor enthusiasts, historical sites for heritage travelers, the Maragondon River, and experiences such as balsa tours. It’s a destination where nature and history can complement each other, yet it doesn’t always receive the same attention as Cavite’s more established tourism areas.
Corregidor and Cavite’s Underrated Heritage
Kristian also considers Corregidor an underrated destination. Part of the challenge is accessibility. Compared with destinations that travelers can simply drive to, visiting Corregidor requires more planning. Still, he recognizes the efforts of Cavite Tourism to promote the island and hopes these initiatives continue.
Beyond specific destinations, Kristian believes Cavite’s heritage sites as a whole deserve a stronger tourism push. The province has old churches, historical landmarks, and other places connected to its past that could become significant tourism experiences. One idea he hopes to see more of in the future is heritage tours in Cavite.
Other provinces have successfully showcased their history and culture as part of their tourism identity. With Cavite’s historical significance, Kristian believes there’s no reason the province can’t do the same. These heritage sites are, after all, part of Cavite’s wealth.
How Lakwatsero Caviteño Has Evolved
Lakwatsero Caviteño looks very different today compared with when Kristian first started the page. Initially, his content focused heavily on historical sites and Caviteño traditions. As the audience grew, so did the variety of stories he covered.
Today, followers can find content about restaurants and local food, hotels and resorts, cafés, new tourist attractions, staycations, historical destinations, culture and heritage, events, infrastructure projects, and developments around Cavite. This evolution has also opened opportunities for Lakwatsero Caviteño to work with some local government units in the province.
Through these partnerships, the platform has helped promote tourist attractions, local events, and infrastructure projects. The page may have expanded beyond its original historical focus, but Cavite remains at the center of its identity.
From a Local Page to Wider Recognition
One of the biggest indications of Lakwatsero Caviteño’s growth is the recognition it has received from both public and private organizations. Kristian considers these recognitions among the milestones he’s most proud of. Lakwatsero Caviteño has received awards and has also been featured on national television and radio programs.
For a platform that began with a desire to introduce people to overlooked historical places, reaching audiences beyond Cavite shows just how far a local story can travel. But perhaps more importantly, it demonstrates that hyperlocal content has value. You don’t necessarily have to look far from home to find stories worth telling.
Content Creators Can Help Preserve Local Heritage
For Kristian, digital creators have a role that goes beyond producing entertaining posts. One of their most important contributions to heritage preservation is awareness. People first need to know that a place, tradition, or piece of history exists before they can understand why it needs to be protected.
Through content, creators can explain why a historical site is important, introduce audiences to traditions passed down through generations, and remind people that these places are part of the heritage left to us by our ancestors. That awareness can eventually encourage people to value and protect them.

For those who want to become travel, food, or culture creators, Kristian’s first piece of advice is straightforward: focus on the kind of content you genuinely enjoy creating. If money is the only reason you’re getting into blogging or vlogging, he suggests reconsidering it.
Content creation can provide income, but it isn’t always consistent. There won’t always be clients or paid collaborations, which is why he recommends having another source of income instead of depending entirely on blogging or vlogging.
Having a profession, job, or business alongside content creation can provide stability while allowing you to be more intentional about the projects you accept. It’s practical advice that aspiring creators don’t always hear when they see the more glamorous side of the industry online.
Have Malasakit for the Businesses That Trust You
Kristian also emphasizes having malasakit for clients, particularly businesses that trust creators to feature them. When a business invites or hires a blogger, that collaboration represents an investment and a level of trust.
For small businesses especially, a creator’s coverage can influence how potential customers perceive their products or services. That means creators should take collaborations seriously and make an effort to provide value to the people and businesses that put their trust in them.
It’s an interesting principle considering how I first met Kristian in 2020. Malasakit was present even then, long before our interactions had anything to do with content creation.

Creators should research before publishing and make sure the information they’re sharing is accurate.
He also cautions against using AI-generated images in ways that could misrepresent historical places or events. Technology may make content creation easier, but convenience should never come at the expense of accuracy. Going viral isn’t worth spreading misinformation.
For creators dealing with history in particular, one inaccurate story can be repeated and reshared until audiences eventually mistake it for fact. Kristian’s approach is simple: fact-check, research, and be careful about what you publish.
What’s Next for Lakwatsero Caviteño?
You might expect someone who has built an established local platform to have the next several years of content carefully planned. Kristian doesn’t. And perhaps that’s part of what keeps Lakwatsero Caviteño interesting.
He describes his approach to content as relatively spontaneous. Instead of following a rigid content calendar for future projects, he watches what’s happening around Cavite and waits to see what new destinations, developments, stories, and trends emerge. After all, some of the best local stories aren’t something you can schedule months in advance.
A new restaurant opens. A previously overlooked destination starts gaining attention. An event brings a community together. A development changes part of the province. Suddenly, there’s a new story worth exploring.
There is one number he’d be happy to reach someday, though: one million followers.
Beyond that milestone, his approach remains simple: keep watching Cavite and see where the next story leads.
Why Local Creators Like Lakwatsero Caviteño Matter
I’ve known Kuya Kristian since 2020, but our first interaction had nothing to do with follower counts, algorithms, invitations, or collaborations. It started with donated clothes intended for families affected by the Taal Volcano eruption. Years later, I now see him using a much larger platform to help in another way: by giving Cavite’s places, businesses, history, and culture greater visibility.
The story of Lakwatsero Caviteño reminds us that creators don’t always have to travel across the Philippines or fly to another country to find something worth sharing. Sometimes the best stories are already around us. They can be found inside an old Cavite church, along the Maragondon River, on an island filled with wartime history, inside a newly opened family restaurant, or behind a historical marker we’ve passed countless times without stopping to read. We just need someone curious enough to look closer and responsible enough to tell the story properly.
