I recently visited one of the most trending spas in Quezon City. After trying their services, I can now give you lots of good reasons to visit Balay Hilom Spa.
Balay is a Cebuano word which means house. Hilom is a Tagalog word which means heal. Based from their name, I can say that this is a place for healing.
1. Native Interior Design
Although most spas in the metro are trying to be modern, Balay Hilom Spa chooses to have a native interior design. When I say native, it means that the designs resemble the traditional bahay kubo.
2. Relaxing Music
Their music sets the mood of the place. I can say that these are far from the usual instrumental love songs we often hear in spas. I heard some indigenous background music from the provinces of the Philippines. Kulintang and flute are some of the musical instruments you can hear. It made me feel that I’m in a remote province while inside the spa.
Besides the local music, they also feature some accessories from Naapuhap Manila. I love how they promote local sellers in the Philippines.
3. Delicious Tea
They serve tea as a welcome drink. It’s so delicious I even asked them where it came from. Apparently, their heirloom tea is their own local brew. It’s made from locally sourced ingredients from an old family recipe. It’s something we can’t buy anywhere. That’s another reason to go back to the spa!
4. Soothing Scent of Essential Oils
I love the smell of essential oils. The moment I entered the spa, I already smelled the aroma of the place. The spa uses Virgin Coconut Oil for the base, and then have it infused with herbs and different flavors. It’s definitely not “amoy matanda”.
5. Healing Massage
This is the highlight! At first, I thought that 100 minutes of massage is too long. I was wrong! Let me tell you about my experience in detail. As soon as I arrived there, the staff welcomed me and asked about my appointment. Next, they asked me to wait in the reception area. While drinking their heirloom tea, they soaked my feet in a pale filled with warm water. Very relaxing, right?
Inside the massage room, I took off my clothes and the magic began! I chose the Hilot Bato because having a stone massage is in my bucket list.
I would say that the massage has three stages: First, the therapist gave me the traditional massage. She often asks if the pressure is right or too much. The pressure is perfect. I love hard massages. Next, she put on a towel on my back, then placed some hot stones. That made me really sweaty. It took a couple of minutes before she removed the stones. I thought it’s over after that. On the last stage, she removed the towel and used the hot stones to massage me! I got surprised because it’s really warm! It really felt so good. All the “lamig” in my body is gone after that.
How to go there?
Balay Hilom Spa is located at FBR Arcade, Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City.
I actually took a grab to go there. LOL. But if you want to take the public transportation, you can take a jeep from UP Diliman going to Katipunan and get off at FBR Arcade. If you see a Yellow Cab, that’s the building. I didn’t see any signs outside but you’ll see the spa inside. Promise!
Balay Hilom Spa satisfied all my senses. Their native interior design, the relaxing music, the taste of their tea, the soothing scent of essential oils, and the healing massage of their therapists make Balay Hilom Spa one of the best spas in the Philippines.

I’ve experienced a lot of massages from different places. Usually I feel body pains the next day. I’m surprised that I didn’t feel any pain after my hilot bato. I definitely recommend it!

ang ganda ng lobby/waiting area nya. this isn’t too far from us kaya go kami ni hubby next time we are around.
Sakto, naghahanap kami ng girlfriend ko ng isa spa para makapag relax. Hopefully hindi mabigat ang kamay ng mga therapist medyo nadala kasi ako sa first time kong magpamasahe sa isang spa sa Makati.
Visiting this place this week! Excited! ?
Ang layo, waah. But I guess if I really want some me time, this is going to be all worth it. I badly need massage and spa treatment.
I’m relieved it’s located near my place. Thanks for journeying all the way to QC to share this experience with us

The place looks relaxing with a touch of Native-inspired elements. So thoughtful of them to dip your feet in warm water while waiting.
I love Spas and massages, and am adding this one on my list.
Seems a nice place to try and be relaxed. Will try this Hilot Bato with my hubby 🙂
