Things to do in Seoul during Rainy Season

It’s rainy season. You are exploring Seoul. Would you let rain season ruin your day? Of course not! People usually feel lazy to go out when it’s raining. People think that rains will be a problem in discovering the places around Seoul.  Don’t worry! There are lots of things to do around Seoul during rainy season. I, This is Rocio, Ravenous Travellers, The Unconventional Life and Seoulinspired made a list of the places you should visit during rainy season.

Themed Cafes

According to the results of a 2013 study by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Korea ranks as one of the countries that drinks the most coffee in the world. The average Korean in a typical week drinks more coffee than he eats kimchi. Drinking coffee became a part of their culture.

Life is too short to drink a coffee in a boring cafe. There are lots of themed cafes in Seoul. In Myeongdong, you’ll see Hello Kitty cafe, cat cafe, and dog cafe. In Insadong, you’ll see Miss Lee Cafe, and Poop Cafe. In Hongdae, you’ll see a sheep cafe, One Piece Cafe, and CaFace.

Themed Cafes: Hongdae Meerkat Cafe

Hongdae Meerkat Cafe has an amazing and exotic collection of animals that you can pet (or in the case of the meerkats, let them run all over you), and is always an exciting and cute experience. When you want a break from the animals you can sit down and enjoy your drink while watching the chaos happening within the meerkat enclosure.

If meerkats aren’t your thing then there is a wide assortment of other animal cafes in Hongdae too! These range from racoon cafes, to sheep cafes, to fish cafes! The variety that exists is amazing. And if you don’t want animals at all, and would rather enjoy a nice restful hot drink, there are always beautiful flower cafes or calming book cafes.

If you’re feeling cooped up in your house and want something to do on a rainy day in Seoul, Korea is the place to be! There are so many indoor activities like screen golf, baseball, or game rooms. I was surprised to find an Archery cafe emblazoned with a small archery target and bow. I think this is a great activity to do on a rainy day! No appoint needed, you walk in and get started right away! First you get suited up with some protective gear and assigned your bow. Next, you’re given a short demonstration and couple practice shots. After that you’re basically left to your own devices to get your inner-Katniss on! I was surprised at how good I was and felt super bad-ass doing it. Jjimjilbang

After days of walking around Seoul, you’ll surely need time to relax. Going to Jjimjilbang (Korean Sauna) will be the best decision you’ll ever make. In Korean dramas, you may think of it as an accommodation for those who can’t afford to rent a hotel. In real life, it’s a haven of people who wants to relax.

There you’ll find yourself soaked in a warm and relaxing pool. You can even ask someone to give you a body scrub or a body massage. After than you can visit some therapeutic rooms that can soothe your body. I visit it once or twice a month. I highly recommend Silloam Sauna.

Trick Eye Museum

Trick Eye Museum is the first and only AR Museum in the world. Besides the touchable exhibits, you may also visit their love museum and ice museum. It’s a group of museums packed in one place.

I highly recommend this for tourists who are traveling with kids. I must say that it’s not only for kids, but also teenagers, adults, and oldies can surely enjoy taking pictures inside the museum.

Teseum

Teseum is a teddy bear museum. It is suitable for all ages. As much as the children will enjoy it, couples, friends, and family members can also enjoy taking pictures with the life size bears. Oh I forgot to mention. They also have miniature bears depicting the community in Seoul. I wasn’t able to take a picture of it but it will definitely be included in my Vlog about Teseum. (Don’t forget to subscribe in my channel!)

Besides Teseum, they also have a mirror maze. I think you should also experience it because it’s cheaper than buying just one ticket. To go there, you just have to take the subway going to Dongmyo Station and get off at exit 6. There you’ll be welcomed by a lot of bears!

Leeum Samsung Museum Of Art

This beautifully designed museum is located in the hip Hannam district, very near to the hustle and bustle of Itaewon. Leeum is divided into two museums: Museum 1 is dedicated to traditional Korean art, while Museum 2 showcases international modern art pieces. From the aesthetically pleasing design, to the fantastic exhibitions, to the affordable entry fee (10,000won), Leeum is a great place to enjoy some art and get inspired during a rainy afternoon.

Root Cafe

After feasting your eyes on a proper dose of art at Leeum, your tummy will demand to be fed too. Take the healthy route and head over to the lovely Root, a veg-friendly eatery that does avocado right. They wisely put avo on toast, on salads, in sushi, in sandwiches, on everything, really. They’re known for their bowl-style salads and avocado toast. I highly recommend the toast and lime shrimp bowl. But if you’re craving something heartier, try their mouth-watering chili and grilled cheese.

All That Jazz Club

Cap off your day with some live music at Seoul’s oldest jazz club, All That Jazz. Dating back to 1976, the bar features top-notch local and international musicians. I was impressed with their monthly program as I noticed some acts from my hometown of Chicago had played in recent weeks. The venue has two floors and while the upstairs section is close to the action, stick to the main level if you can, for a more intimate experience. As far as beverages go, skip the pricey cocktails and savor each sip of (reasonably priced) wine as you soak in all that jazz. Once your ears are full, immerse yourself in the vibrant nightlife of Itaewon.

Team Lab World

Team Lab World is the perfect place to spend a rainy day in Seoul. The interactive art museum in Lotte World first opened its doors in 2016 with the aim of creating a fun and stimulating art world for both adults and children.

All of the activities throughout Team Lab World are interactive. Our favourite was the giant virtual aquarium, where you’re able to design a sea creature and scan it directly into the virtual aquarium and watch it swim across the wall right front in of you.

The attractions merge art and technology and will engage your five senses. If you’re looking for something a little different then you’ll have a great time at Team Lab World, a place where you can let your imagination go wild. It’s a fun, unique and interactive way to spend an afternoon for all ages.
