Come and See Jesus: John 1:29–42

Come and See Jesus

One of the first invitations Jesus gives in the Gospel of John is simple and powerful: “Come and see.” In this children’s Sunday School lesson based on John 1:29–42, kids are invited to come and see Jesus, discover who He is, and learn what it means to follow Him.

This lesson helps children understand that Jesus welcomes questions, calls people by name, and invites everyone, young and old, to walk with Him. As kids explore this story, they are encouraged not only to follow Jesus themselves but also to invite others to come and see Him too.

The Bible Story: John 1:29–42

In this passage, John the Baptist sees Jesus and tells the people, “Look, the Lamb of God.” Two of John’s followers become curious and start following Jesus. When Jesus notices them, He asks a meaningful question: “What are you looking for?”

Instead of giving a long explanation, Jesus invites them with simple words: “Come and see.” The disciples spend time with Him, and one of them, Andrew, immediately brings his brother to meet Jesus as well.

This story shows children that faith often begins with curiosity and grows through relationships.

Jesus invites us to come and see who He is, follow Him, and share His love with others.

John the Baptist saw Jesus and said, “Look! The Lamb of God!”
Two of John’s followers began following Jesus.
Jesus asked them, “What are you looking for?”
He invited them with the words, “Come and see.”
One disciple, Andrew, brought his brother Simon Peter to Jesus.

When we follow Jesus, we also invite others to meet Him.

Teaching the Story to Children

When teaching this story, emphasize that:

  • Jesus notices people and cares about their questions.
  • Following Jesus starts with spending time with Him.
  • Sharing Jesus can be as simple as inviting someone else.

Ask children:

  • Who could you invite to learn about Jesus?
  • What do you think the disciples were looking for?
  • How do we come and see Jesus today?

Memory Verse

“Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

John 1:29b

Life Application for Kids

Help children connect the lesson to everyday life:

  • Follow Jesus by being kind and helpful
  • Listen to Jesus through prayer and Bible stories
  • Invite a friend to church or Sunday School

Just like Andrew invited his brother, kids can help others come and see Jesus.

Why “Come and See Jesus” Matters

This story reminds children that following Jesus is not about having all the answers. It’s about taking the first step. When kids are invited to come and see Jesus, they learn that faith is welcoming, personal, and meant to be shared.
