Travel with Karla on GMA Reel Time

Travel with Karla on TV!

As a blogger, I often feel that I’m a one man team. From taking pictures, editing, to making blogs and vlogs, I do everything for myself. Last May 2019, I was given a chance to be a part of a tour that will feature the culture and tradition of Muslims. This time, GMA Reel Time produced a short documentary about our experience in Quiapo Muslim Town. Watch these videos from GMA Public Affairs YouTube Channel.

Behind the Scene Experience

The early bird catches worm. I went there an hour earlier than the call time because I really don’t want to be late. It take around three hours to travel from Cavite to Quiapo. Since I’m early, the team gave me one of the lapel microphones. This means that I get more exposure! LOL!

Networking is not collecting contacts. Networking is about planting relationships. I signed up for this not only to experience the tour but also to meet people from various walks of life. I made sure to give out calling cards and build relationships with the group.

When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. I love how the director, script writer, and video editor created the documentary. I think it’s well-planned. This is one of my takeaways. Usually, when I vlog, I just record anything without a concept in my mind. I realized that I really need to make a plan before producing a vlog. Up until now, I’m still not yet done with my vlog about Muslim Town. LOL. Just read my blog first! HAHA!

Stick to your brand. While the documentary is airing, I got some messages from fans/followers saying that they recognized me right away because I’m wearing a Travel with Karla shirt.

  1. I’m sooo thrilled over this feature Ms. Karla, because I’m an avid fan of GMA News and Documentaries! What I love about this is that you’re not afraid to ask questions (at least from my POV) and your like representing us all that are clueless about the Muslim Culture.

  2. Great takeways Ms Karla. Oo nga noh, dapat pala before ka magsulat or mag-film. may concept ka na dapat, para you have a framework ng gagawin. Congratulations po! Yay to more exposure and connections!

  3. This is pretty cool! I guess being early on the set gave you an advantage of having more exposure for your endeavors! ?

  4. Congrats on this Karla. I have learned a big deal with how shoots are done here. Production staff are ready with their drafts so theynknow what to shoot and angles to shoot it from. Galing!

  5. I love watching documentaries like this about our muslim brothers and sisters. They are very educational and it gives us great understanding on their culture and traditions.

  6. Congratulations for your feature on TV! Anyway, thanks for the tip that when it comes to networking, it’s about building the relationships and not just getting contacts. I should honestly do better at that.

  7. This must have been quite an experience for you. It is nice to learn so much about our Muslim brothers and sisters through your short documentary.

  8. I have many Filipino colleagues and friends but I doubt they know of this place in Manila because no one has ever mentioned it. I was always worried about where to find halaal food if I visit Manila and now look at all these places ?

  9. wow I’ve been watching real time. it’s so nice to be featured in a show like that. learned a lot about the muslim community in one show. I’ve studied at TIP Manila and I’ve always walked thru that community when I was still studying, glad to know there’s more to Quiapo’s Muslim community than what we only see along the street.

  10. I love and can relate to that statement: When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Everything we do in life needs some kind of action plan.
