Where to Eat in Salawag: Takoyaki Sensei

Takoyaki Sensei is one of the leading food stalls which sells mouthwatering Takoyaki! Just last October 30, 2019, Takoyaki Sensei opened their 18th branch in Salawag. I went there to try the different flavors of Takoyaki.

Takoyaki

Takoyaki is a ball-shaped Japanese snack or appetizer made of a wheat flour-based batter and cooked in a special molded pan. It is typically filled with minced or diced octopus (tako), tempura scraps (tenkasu), pickled ginger (beni shoga), and green onion (negi).

Regular and Special Takoyaki

In Takoyaki Sensei, you can buy Takoyaki for as low as 30 pesos (3pcs). It’s even cheaper if you buy more: 35 pesos for 4pcs and 70 pesos for 9pcs. The special Takoyaki costs more because it contains octopus, pickled ginger, nori, more Japanese mayo, and more toppings! Nonetheless, it will still not hurt your pockets. Four pieces of Special Takoyaki costs 55 pesos only and 9 pieces costs 120 pesos. What a steal right? I wouldn’t mind spending 55 pesos to taste their savory Takoyaki!

Kaisen Takoyaki

Kaisen Takoyaki is my favorite! It is packed with lots of seafood meat (shrimp and crabsticks). It is also topped with nori and tobiko and some Japanese mayo. This Kaisen Takoyaki is the best if you like to taste an adventure in your mouth. Kaisen Takoyaki costs 75 pesos (4 pcs) and 150 pesos (9 pcs).

Cheesebomb Takoyaki

Cheesebomb Takoyaki is their latest flavor. It contains three kinds of cheese: mozzarella, cheddar, and another cheese. It lives up to its name because it’s really a bomb! The cheese literally explodes in your mouth.

Regular Cheesebomb costs 75 pesos (4 pcs) and 150 pesos (9 pcs). Special Cheesebomb (with octopus) costs 95 pesos (4 pcs) and 200 pesos (9 pcs). The Pork floss also adds flavor to it. You can either choose original or spicy pork floss on top.

Other Meals

Besides the delicious Takoyaki, they also offer Okonomiyaki, Yakisoba, and Takosen. It’s nice to know that you can go there to eat heavy meals.

Okonomiyaki

Okonomiyaki is one of their best sellers. It’s a Japanese pizza made with cabbage, bean sprouts, ramen, egg, bonito flakes, nori, beef, Japanese mayo, and signature sauce. For me, the serving size is good for two people. It not only super delicious but also affordable at 105 pesos only. This is my top pick!

Yakisoba

Yakisoba is a Japanese style friend noodles with beef, fresh veggies, and signature sauce. It’s best to eat this while it’s hot. I like eating instant Yakisoba but it really feels better to eat the actual meal. After all, it’s 97 pesos only!

Takosen

Takosen is something new for me. It’s a sandwich version of Takoyaki and senbei “signature crispy cracker” topped with more mayo and Japanese toppings. This tastes like the usual Takoyaki, except that it’s inside a Taco. It tends to be messy haha! Only try this when you’re with friends, not recommended when you’re trying to be demure on a first date. Kidding! Takosen costs 50 pesos (regular) and 70 pesos (special).

The owner of this branch is very hands on. He’s very approachable. As for the employees, they are wearing face mask and cap for sanitation purposes. All the staff are kind and seems trained with what they are doing.

I’ve been to different Takoyaki food stalls here in the Philippines, in Korea, and even in Japan. I must say that their Takoyaki really tastes good at an affordable price!

In addition, I also like their interior. It’s very Japanese! If you prefer not to sit on those pillows, they also have chairs on the other side.
