Discover Bacoor: Things to Do in Bacoor

There are so many things to do in Bacoor! It’s Cavite’s Gateway to Manila. In this post, I’m going to give you some things that you can experience there. But before we go there, let’s have a quick review about the history of Bacoor. In 1671, the place was named after bakod (Filipino term for fence). When Spaniards came, they asked about what the locals are building and they said it was bakood. Spaniards pronounced it as Bacoor and then it was officially named Bacoor after that.

1. Visit Historical Churches

Bacoor has a number of historical churches. In fact, they are always included in Cavite’s Visita Iglesia Itineraries. St. Michael the Archangel Church is the most famous among them. It’s the Bacoor church nearest to Manila.

You may also try visiting the Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish Church, San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish Church, San Martin de Porres Parish Church, Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Holy Trinity Parish, Sto. Nino de Molino Parish Church and many other churches.

Besides the churches, I recommend the Bahay Tisa or the Cuenca Ancestral House to know more about the beginnings of Bacoor.

2. Eat the Famous Digman Halo-halo

Trying Digman Halo halo is the one I look forward doing because it was featured in different TV Programs. Apparently, Digman is a barangay in Bacoor. There are actually many Halo-halo shops in the area that claims to be the original. Since it was established during 1960’s, I went to the BC2 Original Digman Famous Halo-halo (Talk of the Town).

Their Halo-halo is full of different ingredients. It’s like 3/4 of the whole halo-halo as seen on the photo above. Surprisingly, it’s just 60 pesos despite its popularity. On the other side of the walls, you can see photos of different celebrities and politicians who went there. There are also newspaper clippings about the famous Digman Halo-halo.

SM Bacoor is the first SM Mall not only in Cavite but also CALABARZON. It was opened in 1997. It remains to be one of the malls with the highest revenue in Cavite. No wonder, there are so many cool shops in SM Bacoor! In fact, Kumori Japanese Bakery & Cafe just opened a branch there last month. I’ll make another review about it on my next blog.

  2. I guess I didn’t put take too much notice of Bacoor because I grew up living very close to it, and in my university years, I passed by it a lot. But yeah, it can be nice to try that.

You missed eating at “Hidden Tapsi,” the legendary Tapsilog place there. I’m familiar with this place because a co-worker’s family owns it. Also, Island Cove, I think, is located in that area.

  3. I lived in Bacoor for quite some time in Molino exactly. I glad that the city really had improved from the way it is years ago. And also Digman’s halo halo is really the best.
