Soul Sesh at Coffice

Introvert or extrovert, people at any stage of their life need a group of friends who can listen to their stories. Last November, I wrote about a group called Soul Sesh. Initially, the primary reasons why I joined the group is to have some social life and engage in activities like Soul Sesh On The Streets. I can’t believe how time passed by. Soul Sesh is about to turn 1!

What is Soul Sesh?

Soul Sesh (a.k.a. Soul Sessions) is a community of women where you can openly talk about anything under the sun, most especially those matters of the heart that affects women today, so we would go home encouraged and equipped to face life’s challenges.

The group is an avenue where you can connect with other women and be empowered in living your life’s purpose. It is neither associated with any religious organization or business, nor would endorse or promote non-related activities/business inside the group.

The sesh is not a big event, rather it’s a small group where you can #beyourtrueself while learning #fromHisWordtoOurHearts.

What do we do?

We usually start the sessions by introducing ourselves. There’s a new face every session and we make time to get to know each other. We often do that over a cup of coffee and sometimes, we also try different restaurants.

After the getting to know part, some Soul Sesh sisters share their reflections and lessons about a story based from the Bible and how can we apply it in our lives. Okay, Soul Sesh is not really a “religious group”. It’s composed of people from different churches. We don’t promote any religion.

Lastly, we share our struggles in life and some lessons that we learned from it. Everyone faces problems everyday. Sometimes, we just have to let it all out. Soul Sesh does not really give advice. We listen, and I think that’s beautiful.

Let me show you a short recap of some activities I attended in the previous months:

We usually meet on Saturdays. Last month, we tried to have a Wednesday Sesh. Being in a big group is good, you can meet a lot of people with different backgrounds. On the other hand, meeting in small groups is also good because it’s more intimate and not that lengthy unlike the usual sesh. I enjoy attending both.

Just last weekend, we decided to have our Mid-Year Sesh at one of the co-working spaces in Cavite, Coffice. I’d say it’s more comfortable to meet there because there are no distractions unlike in public places. We ate some nachos and cake, we shared some personal stories, and we laughed a lot!

Being with the group really helped me not only socially but also emotionally. Unlike the usual group where people share only the grand things that are happening in their lives, Soul Sesh sisters show the realities they are facing. For instance, my life may look good on social media but I also have insecurities which I would never share in public. These women are there to actively listen to everyone’s issues. I think we all need people who can listen to us. A problem shared is a problem halved.

Here are some takeaways from the last sesh:

We learned that in order for us to thrive in the middle of our journey, first we need to get freed from our past. We don’t get freed from it by just forgetting it. We get freed from our past by changing the way we remember it.

We also realized that the future may be out of our control, but with God it is not. He knows the plans He has for us. And those plans for sure are plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future.

So in the middle, we trust Him. In the middle, we don’t give up. In the middle, we let the process mold us. Believing that even when we don’t see what is to come, we know the ending because we know our God.

Do you feel that you’re alone? Do you feel that no one is there to listen about your problems? You may send us a message in our Facebook Page: Soul Sesh.

  1. As an adult, I find it’s usually hard to make friends let alone likeminded ones. And with the modern day distractions and proliferation of travel, our relationships aren’t as strong or long lasting. It’s fantastic that you are able to meet different people from various backgrounds in your group and make it a regular occurrence. I hope it continues to help you on many levels and in numerous ways!

  2. This is great and it’s nice to know you have your group you are comfortable with. I always have a group of friends wherever I go and whichever stage of my life I am in so as I go through each stage and place, I gladly welcome them. I also love your venue. It’s private and cozy.

  3. I like the idea of a soul sesh. It looks like you picked a great place to pow wow and that you all had a lot of fun.

  4. I like the idea of a soul sesh. This would be so uplifting! There are times in our lives that we do not need advice, we just want someone to listen.

  5. I wish we had something like that here in our community. It would be nice to go out and just be yourself, meet new like minded women and just share away! That would be like soul food everytime!

  6. We need such gatherings for all communities. Humans are becoming increasingly anti social. This can be a neat break from that.

  7. This sounds like such a fun time! i need a soul sesh near me 🙂 glad you have a group of supportive women like this!

  8. That sounds like a great chance to have a chat with other women about important issues … and coffee makes it even more fun! I love this idea! 🙂

  9. I love the idea that it’s all about listening. We have something similar in the office called the life group. Great meeting place by the way.
