A Symphony Concert in Korea

One of my adult students in the church gave me two VIP tickets! It costs around $60 each. That’s a lot for me since I usually spend around $20 every time I travel. I was so excited I even asked people what to wear to that type of concert.

In the ticket, it says there that VIP ticket holders should arrive at 6:30 pm. The concert begins at 8 pm. At first, I thought that they have a complimentary snack but they don’t. I guess they just want all the guests to be on time.

When I learned that it was a KBS concert, I was so excited thinking that it’s the network that produces Korean dramas!!! I excitedly searched for the details on the internet. I tried being a music teacher during my first year of teaching. All I know was Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky is a Russian composer. I guess I’m doomed! LOL

What to wear?

I thought that I need to wear something formal. But I was wrong. Most of the guests wore casual but prettier than usual. They wore something that parents wear during the parent-teacher meetings. I wore a simple black dress and a dark coat on top of it.

What to do?

  1. Don’t be on time. Be there before the doors open.
  2. Turn off your phone or put it in silent mode (not vibrate).
  3. Enter facing the people in the row so you won’t put your backside to their face.
  4. Wait for the section to finish (when the audience is applauding), before going out.
  5. Don’t talk or whisper during the performance.
  6. Clap only when the conductor turns around and smiles at the audience. Don’t stop clapping at he reach the exit.

Those are the things I’ve learned inside the symphony concert. It was a pleasant experience. It was really relaxing to watch classical music. It was relaxing that I fell asleep for a few minutes! I’ve decided to go out during the intermission. I guess it’s not my thing after all.
