Hanbok Experience

Since I’ve posted my picture wearing a hanbok, people have been asking me where to rent it. What they don’t know is they can experience wearing a hanbok without even paying for it. I made this post to help tourist find the spots where they can experience wearing a hanbok. Trip to Korea won’t be complete without wearing a hanbok!

Hanbok

Hanbok is a traditional Korean dress. Koreans usually wear it during special occasions.

Parts of the hanbok:

  • Jeogori – the basic upper garment of the hanbok
  • Chima – the skirt of the women’s hanbok
  • Paji  – the pants of the men’s hanbok
  • Po  – the outer robe or over coat in hanbok

PS. Admission to palaces is free when you are wearing hanbok!

You may visit Gyeongbukgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, Changgyeonggung Palace, Deoksugung Palace, or Gyeonghuigung Palace. <3

And if you’re tired of being a princess, you could try being a eunuch! 😛

  2. I tried wearing quite a lot of hanbok before but it still feels weird everytime I wear one. hahaha
I enjoyed it the most when we had an event for Korean tourism and it’s our uniform for two days. People come to take photos with us lol

  3. That’s cool. As you can see from my profile pic I hold other cultures in high regard. A trip to south east Asia is on my bucket list.

  4. You are indeed lucky to be able to have that experience. I would love to try not only wearing a hanbok but to travel to Korea too!

  5. Huge kdrama fan. I would love to dress up like a eunuch like Moonlight Drawn by Clouds! What an amazing experience. I will have to live vicariously through your trips until I can make my own. Thanks for sharing!

  6. Hi, Karla! I am a gov’t employee in the Phils & I’m planning to travel to SoKor. I just wanna ask, do you have to present your “leave of absence” form at the airport? I hope you can help me with this. Thank you & God bless!

  7. Wow…. lucky gal gets to dress up so many different hanbok. I only managed to try it twice during my Korea trip.

  8. Aww… Really want to have a try to wear hanbok while travelling to Korea. I’m sure the felling is just awesome to feel like a tradition beauty at Korea while wearing the hanbok <3<3<3

  9. Hi! I just bumped into your blog! Your contents are very insightful. I just recently developed interest in Korean culture and I am trying to read and watch as much travel articles and videos as I can. I am hoping to be able to visit Seoul as soon as I find some free time. I have a question about hanboks, though…Do you know if they come in bigger sizes? Because I really want to try wearing it. But seeing a lot of very slim Korean models, I wonder if there are hanboks that could fit plus size women like me?

      1. As much as I like hanbok, I’m afraid that almost none of the students nowadays wear one on the day of their graduation! Most actually would wear western-style simple dresses or suits. That is a good idea, though 🙂 I’m planning on wearing one during an event I’m going to attend.

  10. I love your blog about Korea. I’ve told you this before: I miss it terribly. I have plans to take my daughters there before they graduate from high school! Thank you for all the beautiful pictures and thorough information.
