Philippines (Week 2)

This is how I spent my second week here in the Philippines. I made sure to have a bonding with my family members.

August 8, 2016 (Day 4)

I was about to go out but then my sister went home early. I’ve decided to spend the day with her. She asked me to buy a toy called “Kinetic Sand”. I have no idea what is it so I took her to the mall.

At first, I was hesitant to buy some sand because it would be a mess whenever she plays it. Good thing is that they have sample display in the store. It comes with a mini pool and plastic molders. Kinetic sand isn’t messy after all. I think it is the modern version of clay dough. In fact, Kinetic sand is so much easier to mold. I really enjoyed playing with my little sister.

August 9, 2016 (Day 5)

The weather isn’t good. The classes were suspended. It’s not a good day to travel. I spent the day craving some Filipino food!

The first picture is called a Banana cue. It is a popular snack in the Philippines. It’s easy to cook because you only need to have Saba Banana, brown sugar, and cooking oil. My grandmother enjoys cooking for us. The hot banana cue is really suitable for the cold rainy season.

The second picture is called Halo-halo. It is a popular dessert in the Philippines. Halo-halo means mixed together. It’s like the patbingsu in Korea. It is shaved ice with milk and various fruit toppings on top. I invited my mom and sister to eat halo-halo at Mang Inasal after our dinner. It’s not a good move. Although it’s really tasty, we end up ordering a hot soup because my sister felt cold after eating shaved ice on a rainy day. I suggest you eat it during the summer season when you feel the scorching heat.

August 10, 2016 (Day 6)

It is still raining hard. The classes are still canceled. I’ve decided to invite my cousins over and have a “Pamper Day” at the hair salon.

Philippines (8)

Hair treatment in the Philippines is really cheap compared to other countries. Would you believe that I only spent $90 for the five of us? I spent the whole day there because the treatment took several hours. It was worth it.

August 11, 2016 (Day 7)

Philippines (10)

The weather is better today. My sister asked me to pick her up from school. I can really feel that she wants to spend time with me. The picture above is Philippine Christian University. It’s the school where I spent my pre-school to high school days. I had a pretty good time in that place. After taking her from the classroom, we dropped by the high school faculty room to give some “pasalubong”. It’s a Filipino tradition of travelers to bring gifts or souvenirs from their destination to people back home.

I had Jollibee chickenjoy and palabok today. Well, the chicken really tasted like home. I mean, Filipinos really like Jollibee’s chicken! Too bad they don’t have a branch in Korea. I also craved for Pancit Palabok. I don’t know how to cook it but it’s basically a kind of noodles served at Filipino parties.

August 12, 2016 (Day 8)

I spent the day at home, cleaning my old stuff. I really want to adopt a minimalist lifestyle. I’m planning to sell/donate some clothes before I leave.

My grandmother prepared some Turon! Turon is another popular Filipino snack. It’s a banana with a slice of jackfruit inside a spring roll wrapper. Like banana cue, it is also dusted with brown sugar and fried. Filipinos really enjoy sweet fried food.

After some cleaning, I went to SM to buy some stuff. I was surprised that they have an event for Pokemon players. They call it Pokemon Lure Party. I joined the bandwagon and caught some Pokemons while walking. It’s really funny that most of the people walking there are looking on their phones like zombies. LOL.

August 13, 2016 (Day 9)

I will make another post for this one. Finally, I was able to travel with my family around Tagaytay. <3

August 14, 2016 (Day 10)

I went to church with the family. I really make sure that no one will make any excuses. Sunday will always be a family day and a day to go to church.

Philippines (15)

Our family day always includes having meals together. It’s a good way of catching up with each other’s life. I really enjoy a family day. I’ll definitely miss this when I go back to Korea.
