Sunday Night

“Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings, see what God has done.”

This morning, the message of the pastor is about thanksgiving. After receiving Jesus Christ as Lord, we should continue to live our lives according to His will, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in faith, and overflowing with thankfulness. Well, this post won’t be about the message. I would say that it inspired me to write this post.

What’s up with Sunday Night?

When I was a student, I dread Sunday nights. It’s the time when I have to prepare the things I need to bring to school. It’s the time when I have to sleep early. Things changed when I became college because we don’t have classes on Mondays.

When I became a teacher, I started liking Sunday nights. During my first year of teaching, I think I only have four hours of teaching time every Monday. I don’t feel haggard preparing on a Sunday night.

When my little sister started to go to school, Sunday night was crazy. Most of the time, she would tell us that she has an assignment at night! Oh, I have to mention that those assignments are “bring the following…”, “cut and paste a picture of…”, and other things that require a lot of effort. It may sound crazy but I miss it. I miss helping my sister and brothers with their homework.

Now that I’m in Seoul, Sunday night became my kind of night. I don’t know if anyone would be interested in reading this but I want to share how I spend my Sunday nights.

Sunday Night Starter Pack

Planner, Seoul Tourist Guide/Map, Nose Pack, Face Mask, Yakult, Pizza, and Laptop

Those are the things on my table right now. And you know what? I feel blessed because I have these simple things. That picture is just my “starter pack”. It doesn’t include the broom and dustpan, the laundry stuff, and my a little bit messy kitchen.

7 Things I Do on a Sunday Night

Exercise

I don’t know when will I achieve my dream abs. But as they say, if there’s a will, there’s away! I’m not a member of any health club. However, there’s a park three minutes away from my place (#blessed!). It has some gym equipment for public use. I usually do exercise there for an hour.

Clean

Yes, I clean my apartment! I bet my mom would be proud of me when she reads this. To be honest, I don’t sweep the floor every day but I make sure I do it on a Sunday night. I also mop it after sweeping. I feel adult every time I do this. Oh, I forgot to mention, I’m not paying for rent, electricity, and water supply. (#blessed!) It’s included in my perks.

Laundry

My clothes are soaked in a detergent while I’m writing this. I don’t have a washing machine, that’s why I hand wash my stuff. I think 50% of the clothes I wear here are given to me by other people. (#blessed!) In return, I give back to those people who can use the clothes more. I donate some to Beautiful Store. I’ve been trying to have a minimalist lifestyle, I hope I can write about it in the near future.

Cook & Eat

I seldom go out on a Sunday Night. I prefer home-cooked meals. For the past few months of living alone, I’ve learned how to cook a meal for myself. (#blessed!) I’ve learned how to make use of the ingredients available in my kitchen. Most of the time, I cook fried kimbap on a Sunday night.

In the picture above, you can see two slices of pizza. In reality, I have six slices hahaha! Of course, I won’t eat it all tonight. I’ll save some for breakfast. It feels good to satisfy your cravings once in a while. (#blessed!)

Plan

Well, this is optional. Most of the time, I start planning on a Monday morning. What am I planning for? I’m planning my Monday trip. Monday is travel day! (#blessed) I visit at least one tourist spot a week. It’s one of the perks of living in Seoul. I don’t need to spend money on accommodation and flight tickets. The places are just a train or a bus away.  I thank God that I have a chance to visit beautiful places around Seoul.

Relax

I have many ways of relaxing. Sometimes, I pamper myself by using face masks, or nose strips while watching Korean dramas. But you know what’s the most relaxing part of the night? It’s when I talk to my boyfriend and tell him about the things I did the whole day. (#blessed!)

Write

I can say that this is once in a blue moon. I’m writing this on a Sunday night, and I don’t experience having writer’s block at all. I’ve been thinking about the content of this post while I was sweeping the floor. Right after sweeping, I sat in front of my laptop and wrote this post. I don’t know if I’m writing this to be read by other people. But one thing is sure, I’m writing this for my future self. A few years from now, my future self will read this and reminisce how blessed she feels every Sunday night.

How about you? What do you do on a Sunday night?

  1. Hi Karla, I have just read that you donate some of your clothes to Beautiful Store. I am currently in Seoul for a short vacation and was thinking I could donate some of my winter clothes before I go back home. Can you please advise how do I proceed?
