Sungnyemun Gate

Sungnyemun Gate is one of the most famous gates in Seoul, South Korea. It is one of the eight fortress walls of Seoul. You shouldn’t miss this when you are traveling in Korea. It’s next to Namdaemun Market.

  1. The name of the gate means fire.
  2. It is known as Korea’s Treasure No. 1
  3. It is the largest castle gate in Korea.
  4. People call it the South Gate.

Travel Tip

If you’re a solo traveler like me, you should remember this phrase:

  • “Sajin Jeom Chigi Jusigesoyo?” – It means “Can you take a picture of me?”

How to go to Sungnyemun Gate:

Take a subway to Seoul Station or Hoehyeon Station

Admission is free!

It is open from Tuesday to Sunday (9 AM to 6:30 PM)
